The mother of one has sued the Miss World pageant organisers for denying her the title while the organisers said she violated the agreement signed about the contest.
The 24-year-old beauty made her decision to fight the pageant organiser on the pageantry policy that bars mothers or married women from participating in the pageants. Didusenko announced her decision to sue the Miss World organisers on her Instagram handle.
She based her argument on the Equality Act of 2010, which “protects against discrimination based on certain characteristics, including marriage, maternity and gender.”
Didusenko is a divorced woman with a five-year-old son named Alex. She won the Miss Ukraine pageant in September 2018. Unfortunately, her reign was cut short four days later as the pageant poobahs stripped her of the title and crown.
The Miss Ukraine organisers had it stated on their official website that Didusenko violated the terms of the Agreement and the rules of conducting Miss Ukraine National Beauty contest that she must not be married and must have no children:
“In accordance with the rules for conducting the National Beauty Contest ‘Miss Ukraine,’ a person who wishes to take part in the National Beauty Contest ‘Miss Ukraine’ must comply, among other things, with the following requirements (valid for the period of the contest): — not / was not married; — has no children.”
The mother of one said she knew about the clause forbidding mothers from contesting the pageant but still went ahead because she claimed pageant organisers urged her to compete anyway.
Didusenko in an interview with the BBC asked: “Why should a woman be excluded from entering just because she’s a mother? It doesn’t make any sense. Being a mum doesn’t have any implication on my ability to be professional or be a successful model or do my job. So those rules didn’t make any sense to me.”
